The beauty of the Lake District is breathtaking especially during the Winter. With mountain views and snow top ridges, there is plenty of incredible scenes to take in. With an enchanting backdrop of snow topped mountains, there are still many attractions opened for business despite its cold temperatures. There are cozy pubs to take a break in after visiting traditional villages that tend to host a variety of Christmas festivals.

Some of the top attractions in the Winter in the Lake District is the Scafell Pike which is one of the highest mountains in England. Be prepared as weather changes quickly from foggy to rain quite often, but it’s still an amazing site to see. Join the Lake District Ski Club which is one of the few areas in England for skiing. Ski on the Helvellyn mountain located in Penrith.

Other sites to visit include the Derwent Water in Keswick, the Theatre by the lake in Keswick which is opened all year round and includes a cafe and restaurant, and the Aira Force in Penrith where there are towering peaks and a waterfall that drops 65 feet. Explore the woodlands and stroll through parks around the Ullswater Lake and visit the village located at the foot of the town. Those who love to hike and climb can find some challenges in fighting through the cold weather, but the scenery is amazing throughout the Lake District.

Some hotels to stay in during the Winter in the Lake District include the Rampsbeck Country House Hotels and the Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel. Rampsbeck is located in Ullswater with many views of the lake and mountain scenes. It’s within a very short distance to the Lake and village. The Country House is a Victorian building that sits in on four acres of land in the midst of gardens and walkways. It’s near the Lake District Fells and multiple sites to visit including Derwentwater, the market, shops, pubs and local restaurants.

Around Christmas there are always discounts to enjoy when staying for a few nights as it’s considered the off season for tourists. Winter in the Lake District Hotels becomes affordable and fun despite the cold and damp weather. New Years Eve can be exciting as well in the Lake District as there are various events happening throughout the town within its hotels.
