This travel describes the many paths to parenthood in our contemporary society. We look at how parents come into parenthood and the many factors in their lives that influence their experiences as they make the transition and adjust to parenthood. Parents paths to parenthood reflect social changes occurring in the last fifty years. In, percent of babies went home from the hospital with married parents who had either conceived their child or adopted a child born in this country. That currently remains the most common form of family life for newborns, but only percent of babies go home to it, and percent go home with unmarried mothers who are cohabiting with the biological fathers, and percent go home with mothers.
