Wouldn’t it be great if you could take a private guided tour of Italy and experience attractions that other tourists do not? Well a local tour company is making this a reality for their guests and the reviews are incredibly positive.
When most people think of travelling to Italy, certain attractions immediately spring to mind; the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the works of Da Vinci and the Vatican, to name a few. These attractions, although impressive are however only a small part of the wonder on offer in this beautiful country. Its a sad reality however that may visitors to Italy do not venture further than these mainstream attractions and its often because they are all that their tour packages offer, either due to limitations in group sizes, vehicle inaccessibility or simply lack of local knowledge by guides. Fortunately, increasing amounts of tours in Italy are moving away from this limited tour model; private luxury tours are beginning to take precedence in the market and travellers expect them to offer something different.
A local luxury tour company called A La Carte Italy Tours is one such company that aims to meet these expectations. They offer all-inclusive packages which take you places you perhaps never wouldve considered visiting. Instead of just offering tours around major centres, they venture out with their guests to picturesque unique resorts and quaint historic villages. Examples of their travel packages include a ten day Amalfi Coast tour which takes guests on a private, guided tour of the West Coast including stops in Capri, Ravello, Positano, Tivoli, Sorrento, Ischia, Naples, Paestum and Caserta, or their Northern Italy tour which takes guests for a scenic journey around the lakes of northern Italy and includes Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto, Veneto, and Emilia Romagna Italian region. They also take their guests to the mainstream attractions offered by many other companies but with several points of difference – guests are escorted by private motor vehicle, bookings are made (where possible) at non peak times, and best of all guests have their own personal local guide to answer their questions and direct them around the attractions.
Dr Claudio Fontana, the director of A La Carte Italy tours believes that seeing the sights of Italy with a private guide is the optimal way to do so, and his customers seem to agree. “As a local Italian I find it frustrating to hear people speak of visiting my country and all they can report on is the Leaning Tower or Vatican City. There is so much more to see and do here and it is my intention to show my guests all that I can”.
Allan Jameson, a 56 year old American recently travelled with a La Carte Italy tours and was very impressed by the experience. “I had a sense of Italy outside of what the media shows us. I saw ancient churches, amazing landscapes and tranquil islands that I never knew existed. Our guide knew so much about his country from where to visit, to where to eat – he even introduced us to many locals only the way. this was definitely a once in a lifetime trip”.
Italy has over 75 million visitors each year and of those a significant chose to travel with a tour guide. Private guided tours are a growing trend and they seems offer a much more comprehensive Italian experience; definitely something worth considering for travellers.
