Tonight I’m going on a Venice by Night Tour, and then, at the very end, we’re going on a gondola ride, which I’m very excited about. He’s taking us through all these little alleyways and cutting the back streets of Venice and it’s actually where not a lot of tourists come. So, photos and postcards from venice italy
it’s kind of a special little tour for us. When you walk around Venice you’ll see there’s masks in all these front shops. And that’s because they used to have Carnaval here, and they would happen every year for about a month. And people would come from all over the world just to go to this feast. This is one of the best examples of Venitian architecture and it’s considered the Sistine Chapel of Venice, because all the artwork inside was created by one single artist.
In ancient times, when it was just islands, there were rival islands, and they would come on to these bridges right here, it’s called the Fist Bridge, and they would have violent, photos and postcards from venice italy violent fights and throw each other off the bridges, and whoever won would take over the other island. Now for the thing I’ve most been looking forward to, the gondola ride. This is so much fun, I’ve always dreamed of riding in a gondola, and now I’m in Venice, Italy, riding in one.
These Gondolas cost a lot, they’re about the price of a really expensive car. And that’s because they’re all hand made and they’re all built to fit the gondolier. What I didn’t know about Gondolas is that there is a speed limit, and they have speed cameras all around the Grand Canal to make sure you don’t get too fast. I’ve done this before. He almost hit the side here. It takes a lot of talent to be able to maneuver these boats through these tiny little canals.
I’m not sure quite how he’s doing it, sometimes he puts his feet on the wall and pushes us away, sometimes he has to duck his head through the really tiny bridge, it’s pretty impressive. It’s fun being on the gondolas because there seems to be this whole community between the gondoliers and then, as you float along you can look into people’s windows and it’s just a really really cool atmosphere here. There’s only one word for that: amazing, I’m definitely coming back on the gondola.
Venice Gondola Ride and Serenade with Dinner
It has always been a dream of mine to be serenaded on a gondola, and tonight it’s gonna come true. The night is starting with an accordion player and the opera singer, I think, is gonna get started soon. People are coming out of their windows, onto the bridges, to listen to him sing.
So it’s like we’re becoming a tourist attraction. The acoustics in here are amazing. We’re going through these tiny canals and especially when you go under the bridge you just hear his booming voice. I love opera, but on a gondola this is magical.
It’s so special. I love this. It’s now time for dinner, and we’re at one of the best restaurants in Venice. I’m very excited. It’s gonna be some really, really good food.
Now for the main dish, gnocchi and shrimp. This is gonna be really good. Wow, that looks good! Grazie. This is a great end to one of the most memorable nights I have ever had.
