Map of Virelles for Although hardly cutting-edge, it’s a diverse scene that offers something for just about everyone. There are plenty of places catering for those who want to see and be seen but there are also laidback joints where the music and company are just as important. Milan’s nightlife traditionally centres on two main areas: the designer-label streets around Corso Como and south around Via Brera and the canal-side Navigli and the adjacent Ticinese quarter, south of the city, where a more mixed clientele enjoys the lively bars, restaurants and nightclubs, some hosting regular live bands. But there are numerous other pockets like around Porta Venezia, Corso Sempione and Porta Romana, as well as Isola, north of Porta Garibaldi, where trendy bars and restaurants have started to spring up. Milan’s relatively small size and car and scooter culture mean that people are happy to drive to places out of the centre, so some of the more popular bars and clubs that we recommend below may require a bus, bike or a quick taxi ride. APERITIVO TIME An Italian custom that has been honed to a fine art in Milan is the aperitivo, or pre-dinner drink. Between 6pm and 9pm the city unwinds over a drink and a bite to eat: counters often groan under the weight of hot and cold food, all of which is included in the price of your drink (somewhere between 3 and 10, depending on the establishment). Here are some of the city’s best spots for an aperitivo. Moscatelli Corso Garibaldi 93 T02 655 4602; map pp. Map of Virelles 2016.
