Map of Subotica for 30pm, Sat & Sun 9am 4.30pm Fr.3 Walprose.ch After Agno, trains head on to the undistinguished town of CASLANO, unlikely home of the Alprose chocolate factory; from Caslano station, follow the tracks in the direction of Ponte Tresa for about 200m and cut left into the industrial estate. As you enter the factory you’re greeted, Willy Wonka-style, by an attendant who will swoop a breadstick through a fountain bubbling with fragrant molten chocolate, and hand it to you. The museum comprises some old coin-op machines and knick-knacks, but the main attraction is the chance to watch the mixing machines and production-line conveyor belts in action (Mon Fri only) from a partly enclosed catwalk above the factory floor. The on-site shop stocks the full Alprose range at a discount and has unlimited free chocolate for sampling. Eat as much as you want. Ponte Tresa Caslano is loomed over by the bulbous Monte Caslano, which almost chokes this corner of the lake; there is just a narrow, reedy strait between the mountain and the opposite, Italian, shore allowing boats to access PONTE TRESA, the rail terminus 3km south of Caslano.
