Map of Rully

Map of Rully for Brixia as it then was was a major Roman city, designated Colonia Civica Augusta in 27 BC. Evidence is widespread, from the Capitoline Temple overlooking the forum to well-preserved mosaic floors of Roman villas in the Santa Giulia museum. Its rich medieval and Renaissance history under the Venetians left a Brescian school of painting and fine architecture in the main Piazza della Loggia, while neighbouring Piazza Vittoria holds as striking an ensemble of Fascist architecture as anywhere in the region. Brescia has remained a success into the modern era, moving from silk production through railways to an iron and steel industry and the production of trucks and weapons. Yet it merits barely a footnote in most lakes itineraries; tourism is well down the city’s list of priorities. This gives the handsome historic centre a uniquely unpretentious charm; in a region of spectacular natural scenery and legendary urban beauty, Brescia refuses to be pigeon-holed. It’s just a serious, working city, almost completely free of tourists and with plenty to fill an absorbing couple of days. Brescia’s city centre comprises a network of shopping streets enclosing a compact cluster of piazzas. The ancient Piazza della Loggia is the heart of the city, though the adjacent Fascist-era Piazza della Vittoria is larger. Map of Rully 2016.
