Dr. Johnson (and most other veterinarians) advises having travel with cats, either male or female, altered before they are six months old. The ideal age is between four and five months, depending on the size of the cat. The operation is not considered dangerous nowadays to either male or female cat; it is more difficult to perform on females it is a major operation in which the ovaries and uterus are removed but very few travel with cats die.
