Map of Paso Coyhaique/Coyhaique on 250 Engel, Ernst Engels’ father was a well-to-do manufacturer and also a staunch Protestant. He tried to raise his son in the same creed, but young Engels showed his resilience very early. In his early 20s, he became a follower of the left wing of the Hegelian philosophy. His philosophical and political pamphlets were applauded in radical circles. He also wrote Condition of the Working Classes in England (1844), a credible piece of factual research nourished by direct observation and highly praised by Marx. Engels met Marx in Paris, and the two men became close friends.
