Searching for Birth Parents A careful longitudinal study of internationally adopted young adults in The Netherlands found four different patterns regarding searching: about one-third were uninterested and not searching for parents another third. Were interested in finding their biological parents but were not searching for them about one-third were searching almost half of the searching group percent of the sample had reunited with their birth parents and the remainder of the group percent of the sample was still searching Personal and social data on the adopted sample were available at three time periods early adolescence, late adolescence, and young adulthood, ages twenty-four to thirty. In adulthood, the members of the groups resembled each other in their school success, levels of education and professional status, and their rates of marriage and having children. So in the major markers of adulthood, the groups were alike. However, the adults differed in their experience of adoption with the greatest contrasts occurring between those still searching for their biological parents and those who were not interested and were not searching.
