The Leonardo da Vinci gallery on the first floor contains sketches and models of many of his inventions, as well as reconstructions of some of his wackier contraptions, including the famous flying machine and an automatic weaving machine. It is a dry, no-nonsense display dating from the 1950s, but it offers an insight into the prodigious mind of this most Renaissance of men. Weekends see the museum buzzing with children involved in the numerous free organized activities that are on offer from ceramics courses to making plastic. Most are run in Italian but it’s worth enquiring a day or two in advance if you’re interested.
