Until about ten years ago this subject was practically taboo. One would hardly discuss the subject, much less do the operation. We now know that if it is done properly the cat does not in most cases suffer unduly. It is best done at an early age about three months. At this age the cat is incapacitated only one to seven days. However, declawing can be done at any age. It has been done in twelve-year-old travel with cats with good results. After his paws are healed, Puss should be able to flex them as
usual and climb. However, the operation should not be done on a cat that lives outside or in the country or any cat that needs to defend itself.
