Map of Havertown for For all its age, this disturbing work comes across as shockingly modern. GIACOMO CERUTI AND OTHER MASTERS Giacomo Ceruti was known as Il Pitocchetto after the first work here, Due Pitocchi, or Two Paupers (c.1730 34), epitomizing the eighteenth-century shift into an awareness and depiction of the reality of daily life for ordinary folk. Ceruti’s two characters a bright-eyed chap with a withered arm, seated across from his chum in a ragged old army greatcoat, with a jug of wine and pouch of tobacco on the table between them are matched by a snapshot of a washerwoman (c.1720) and other paintings of spinsters, cobblers and more. Ceruti’s formal portrait of an old man (c.1724) demonstrates his maturity; even here, a noble visage unmistakeably shows the vagabond beneath. A sequence of the Four Seasons by Rasio is executed in Arcimboldo style, with fruit and flowers used to compose the figures, while a collection of drawings includes a characteristic Portrait of Lieven van Coppenol by Rembrandt (c.1658), a marvellous Adam and Eve by D rer (c.
