A salivary cyst can develop under the jaw along the neck. It begins as a mass, and when unattended can grow to large size. A salivary cyst is caused by a blockage to the salivary duct. The salivary gland secretion cannot be discharged into the mouth and forms a sac or cyst. Salivary cysts are difficult to treat, and the only complete cure is surgical removal, which is a complicated and delicate operation.
