Girls, in general, have more egalitarian and less traditional views of gender roles, perhaps because such attitudes permit them to participate in a wider array of enjoyable activities. Girls resembled their parents with less traditional values and never moved in the direction of adopting more traditional values in later adolescence. Girls with traditional parents become more egalitarian from seven to thirteen and at age seventeen make only a slight shift in the direction of more traditional values.
