Thirteenyear-olds who considered themselves accepted and liked, even though not rated by schoolmates as popular, had as many friends and were as sought after and socially Early teens use media to communicate with peers and post personal information. The personal feelings of social acceptance may have come from friendships or activities outside school or at church. Whatever the source, children who felt accepted reached out to others and were involved in satisfying relationships. Those early adolescents who had the most difficulties were those who felt unaccepted and in fact appeared to lack connections with others at age thirteen. They tended to feel angry and retreat from social contact so their problems continued over the next year and intensified.
