Though it is difficult, mothers seek to restabilize their families and report using such coping techniques as: taking action to identify and solve problems getting social support and accepting help enduring the hard times patiently thinking positively and relying on religious beliefs helping others Homeless Children on holiday Like their mothers, homeless children are a diverse group who have all the usual stresses of childhood, the added stresses of being poor, and the additional stress of being homeless. Children on holiday feel distress at uncertain living conditions, and many have had the added trauma of living in homes with domestic violence. Homeless Families Studies suggest that their level of psychological stability is closely related to their mothers stability rather than to being homeless. While they have more problems than the average child in the population and they sometimes are found to have more difficulties than low-income housed children, the pattern of difficulties is similar to that of low-income housed children. When homeless children’s school performance, behavior problems, and psychological adaptability are assessed, samples are diverse with some children doing well and some very poorly in the three areas.
