SPA OF THE MONTH
Vitalise, Portugal Hidden away along a countryroad, just 7km from the hustle and bustle ofthe Portuguese resort of Albufeira, Vitalise, based at Vila Mimosa, is a homely escape ifyou’re after a healthy detox holiday.
The Moorish-style villa is more retreat than spa, with 14 bedrooms with en suite showers, a dining room and comfortable sitting room, indoor and outdoor exercise rooms, a beautifully planted garden with a heated pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The beach is just a 10-minute stroll away.
You can choose between two fasts for yourstay (eight, 12 or 15 days): a juice fast or a mild fast. With the juice fast you get fruit and vegetable juices three times a day and a vegetable soup in the evening. The mild fast is a gentler form of fasting, with severallight meals based on an alkaline diet, plus water and herbal teas. After a few days, I found I simply wasn’t hungry anymore.
Each morning starts with a stretch class and then a ö-7km walk, and your days are punctuated with bodyshape classes, yoga, meditation, aqua-jogging and relaxasize. The schedule is full on, but you’re encouraged to rest when you need to.
On the menu are massages, lymphatic drainage, body wraps, colon hydrotherapy and a selection of beauty treatments. Everything you experience at Villa Mimosa is very nurturing and personal.
