There were, of course, major national liberation struggles, such as those in China and Cuba, which freed colonial nations from the oppressive grip of a major world powers. As victories against imperialism, these movements were justly deserving of support. But the claims of the Chinese and Cuban regimes to be socialist have stained the image of genuine socialism everywhere, much like the Josef Stalin regime of the Soviet Union.
