Aliaga for Public ownership of key means of production, socialists believe, will ensure that society is never held hostage by capitalists for the provision of its basic needs. Unlike communists, socialists generally do not believe in the necessity of social revolution. Gradual reform is possible. They hold that incremental change, a process of social evolution, may produce a just society in the future without overturning the full panoply of material conditions upon which the current society operates. It has been said, with this in mind, that communists are simply socialists in a hurry. But there is more to the distinction between communism and socialism than a matter of patience. Like liberals, socialists worry that many important individual rights and freedoms would be quashed in a violent revolution. Aliaga 2016.
